I made this strange creation while traveling in Nicaragua. I’m not sure what it is, but I sent it to my friend Jess in Seattle so she could maybe figure it out and because we love collaborating. http://jessrees.blogspot.com/                                                                 DSC06245 Here, the little girl I used to take care of is showing some possible interactions.DSC06248

Installations

September 4th, 2009

DSC04749 I love playing with yarn. This is me in my friend Linda’s house in Granada, Nicaragua. If you look in the ‘Installations’ gallery you will see what I created inside her house, with a seed pod, a plastic bag, and some yarn. During our travels, my partner Maiz would always be creating jewelry and I would be working with yarn – making hats, crocheting small bracelets or necklaces, hanging installations, etc. In one week I will travel from Philadelphia to Central America for a year of travel and art and love. I’ve begun making earrings to sell while Maiz and I wander. I hope to make more installations, working with specific spaces, using found materials and my beloved yarn.

Here I am crocheting in Granada, Nicaragua. I always had my crochet hooks and yarn in a bag wherever I was traveling, so I could create whenever I had a moment. I spent 6 weeks traveling all over Nicaragua and at the end, in Costa Rica. Wherever I went I loved making jewelry for people, especially children. Just quick, yarn necklaces or bracelets. Kids would always come over to see what I was working on, and I would become more inspired by their smiles and curiosity.
